The Bob Hope High School Eagles continue their winning streak as they bring home several awards from the Texas Cristian Athletic League All-Star celebration. The celebration was held in San Antonio with dinner and recognition held April 11 followed by the All-Star games April 12.

Bob Hope School Athletic Director Mark Marshall brought home the “Martisha Liefer” Athletic Director of the Year award. This award is voted on by several members of TCAL and it is the first time Bob Hope School has earned the award. Marshall over the last seven years has been a force behind all the Bob Hope Athletics programs. Under his tenure we have competed or won State Championships for every sport. Marshall is an active athletic director driving the bus for field trips, covering the cafeteria, stepping in for administrators, and coaching all while fulfilling his duties as AD for our growing district.

“We could not be any prouder of what he has accomplished” said Jesus Acosta Campus Director of Bob Hope High School. Marshall thanked all the teachers and staff members for their support and Acosta and Jeffery Lewis for supporting students at their home games as if they were their own children.

Boys Basketball Coach Rodney Lamb was awarded 3A Basketball Coach of the Year. He led the Bob Hope HS team to their first State Title, stressing academics to his student-athletes. Lamb thanked Athletic Director Mark Marshall, Campus Director Jesus Acosta, and TCAL for their support.

Alijah Airiavbere won Basketball Player of the Year, following in his brother Ethan’s footsteps. The brothers have a sibling rivalry, but Ethan is proud of Alijah’s State Championship win. Although Ethan won the slam dunk contest, which no longer exists, and Alijah has the State Championship, their Bob Hope School legacy is considered even.

On Saturday the students participated in several events and the all-star games. Coach Rodney Lamb coached the winning team and Student Artrell McCullar was named the MVP. Students Ashley Magana, Yaritza Alvarez and Gabriella Bermudez were on the winning basketball team. Vallerie Martinez and Ashley Magana were on the winning Volleyball team. In the 3-point competition Jose Barragan won 2nd place, Artrell McCullar 3rd Place and Alijah Airiavbere 4th place.

Acosta credits CEO Bobby Lopez for the program’s success over the last 15 years. Lopez’s support has been essential for the program’s growth, including the construction of new athletic facilities on the high school property.

Also in attendance were Girls Basketball Coach Jaelyn Garza who was nominated for Girls Basketball Coach of the Year. Coach Garza had a miraculous turnaround season taking a team that did not win any games last year to 2nd runner-up in the State Championship. Long time Volleyball and Tennis head Coach Christian Cruz also provided his support for the players at the evening’s event as several volleyball players received recognition for their efforts.
