BEAUMONT — Two Houston men are behind bars on charges of aggravated robbery after two “jugging” incidents that occurred in Beaumont and Port Arthur.
At approximately 10:40 a.m. Tuesday, the Beaumont Police Department’s Real Time Crime Center was notified of a “jugging” incident in which a victim was followed from Bank of America (265 Dowlen Rd., Beaumont) into Port Arthur and had their bank bag stolen. Investigators from both agencies quickly collaborated, and RTCC technology helped identify the suspect vehicle, according to a news release from BPD.
Shortly afterward, the same vehicle was reported to be back in Beaumont and allegedly involved in another crime—this time at Rave Financial, 3535 Calder Ave. In that case, the suspects had followed a victim from Wells Fargo, 4175 Phelan Blvd., to Rave Financial. As the male victim entered the bank, the suspects broke out the rear window of the vehicle, where a mother and her 5-month-old child were waiting inside. One suspect climbed through the window, demanded the woman’s purse, and fled after she complied. The infant sustained minor injuries during the robbery.
RTCC personnel tracked the suspect vehicle as it traveled west toward Houston and alerted law enforcement in Chambers County. Deputies located the vehicle, taking both suspects into custody. Beaumont officers responded to Chambers County and transported the suspects back to Beaumont, where they were interviewed by Auto Theft Task Force Detectives before being booked into the Jefferson County Jail on charges of Aggravated Robbery.
The suspects have been identified as Tyre Hartley, 30, and Hakeem Thomas, 30, both of Houston, according to police.
