The Port Arthur Little Theatre is turning up the volume with its spring production of Hairspray, the high-energy musical that celebrates love, acceptance, and dancing to your own beat. Directed by Meredith Brawner, the show runs April 25–27, May 2–4, and May 9–11 at the theatre’s location on 4701 Jimmy Johnson Blvd, near Twin City Highway.
In 1960s Baltimore, dance-loving teen Tracy Turnblad auditions for a spot on “The Corny Collins Show” and wins. She becomes an overnight celebrity, a trendsetter in dance, fun and fashion. Perhaps her new status as a teen sensation is enough to topple Corny’s reigning dance queen and bring racial integration to the show.
The production features two casts alternating performance dates: Cast 1 appears on April 25, 27, May 3, 9, and 11; Cast 2 performs on April 26, May 2, 4, and 10. Curtain times are 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and 2:30 p.m. on Sundays. A full list of cast members is available on the PALT Facebook page.
Tickets are available at palt.org or can be reserved by leaving a voicemail at (409) 727-PALT. Prices are $17 for general admission, $15 for seniors, teachers, and active-duty military, and $13 for students.
