Former Lincoln High School classmates Kisha Simmons Proctor and Genese Galvan are ready to help people get their minds and bodies into shape.
The duo, who formed E3Retreats, brought their “Enrich, Embrace, Evolve” Wellness Retreat to Port Arthur’s pavilion on Procter Street Saturday with a plethora of free health screenings, fitness workouts, introduction to meditation and Yoga, free massages, motivational speeches and testimonies.
Joyce Bell Thompson moved about with the assistance of a motorized chair where she stopped for a free hearing check with Dr. Crystal Wiggins, an audiologist.
“This is wonderful, Thompson said. “So many of us need these types of screenings. People need to come out and learn what they need to do to monitor their health.”
Laddrica Collins took advantage of the free blood pressure check administered by Michelle Lee, LVN.
“I think this is a good idea for our community,” Collins said. “I just wish more people came out and take interest in their health.”
Tiffany Hatch, a nurse with Memorial Hermann Healthcare, lives and works in Houston and was eager to come back to her hometown of Port Arthur to administer screenings.
“A lot of people in the community don’t know what to look for,” Hatch said referring to health screenings. “There are young people dying from blood pressure problems. We want to help prevent such health issues.”
Tables were set-up under the pavilion for the day long event including an area where Robyn Prevost with Touch of Peace Massage Therapy and assistant Latosha Cooper gave massages and presented information about crystals as a stick of white sage burned nearby.
Proctor and Galvan each have their own focus in E3Retreats — Galvan focuses on getting healthy o the outside while Proctor focuses on the inside.
“We are trying to let the community know they are stronger together than apart,” Proctor said. “People perish due to lack of knowledge.”
Galvan explained that lifestyle changes are what she strives for. After college Galvan experienced ups and downs in her weight. She realized living healthy isn’t a one time thing but requires a complete lifestyle change.
Procter is a confidence coach and meditation coach who helps people find self-love and a positive self-image.
E3Retreats will host a three-day, two-night retreat in Galveston in October and another retreat in Cost Rica next summer. For more information, go to www.e3retreats.com
