Coastal Industrial Services Inc. has been in business for 23 years, branching out to offer specialty services from Texas to Michigan, Arkansas and Florida, to name a few.

The company home is in the Spur 93 Business Park at 955 West Jade Avenue in Port Arthur. This marks their third location, and there are plans for growth.

President Christene Sonnier and husband and CEO Mark Sonnier Sr. own the business, and two of their four sons are involved in the company. Mark Sonnier II is vice president of finance and accounting, and Ethan Sonnier is vice president of operations.

Also on hand is Ethan’s wife, Jauqulyn Sonnier, who serves as office manager.

Coastal Industrial leaders have found a key to their success. Jauqulyn Sonnier said they have great management, such as supervisors for their crews, who are instrumental in cultivating employees who will stay long term.

“Quality crews producing quality work,” Mark Sonnier Sr. added.

And being a family owned business, they treat their employees like family, Jauqulyn said.

The company is a certified Historically Underutilized Business with Christene Sonnier as president.

According to the Texas Comptroller, a HUB is a “corporation, sole proprietorship, partnership or a joint venture formed for the purpose of making a profit in which at least 51 percent ownership of the business is by a woman, minority and/or service-disabled veteran.”

Christene said when they first started out, their primary work was insulation. Since then they’ve added scaffolding, painting and blasting, heat tracing, staffing, fireproofing, asbestos abatement — specialty services.

Mark Sonnier II said Coastal Industrial works with refineries, chemical companies, power generation, paper mills, aerospace and agricultural processing.

Coastal Industrial today boasts 175 employees and will probably end the year with 200, Jauqulyn said.

Christene noted they are looking to add a satellite office in the Houston area, and

Mark Sonnier Sr. said they are looking to add an office in Louisiana in the future.

And there’s more to their growth.

There is work being done at the business park location to add offices, an add on to the laydown yard and more.

Mark Sonnier II said they are excited about the development in the area and are looking to grow with their industry partners.
