Port Arthur man sentenced to 25 years for fatal shooting

A Port Arthur man was sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to the 2021 fatal shooting of Steve Summerville Jr.
Macarius Jarvis Gerard, 27, made the plea in Judge John Stevens’ criminal district court on Monday, according to information from the court.
Summerville, 32, was shot multiple times at Avery Trace Apartments, 4140 FM 365, on May 27, 2021. He was brought to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.
After the shooting, police asked for the public’s assistance in locating the alleged suspect, Macarius Jarvis Gerard.
He was located and arrested by the U.S. Marshal’s Office less than 24 hours later in Beaumont.
Police previously said the shooting began as a verbal altercation that turned into a physical altercation that turned into a shooting.
The victim was a Houston native who moved to Port Arthur in 2006, police said.
