NEDERLAND — A mechanical issue likely led to a fire that destroyed a pickup truck as well as an adjacent truck early Tuesday morning.
Nederland Fire Chief Terry Morton said the driver of the truck was at Swift convenience store/gas station at Beauxart Garden Road and U.S. 69 around 6:30 a.m. when he noticed smoke from under the hood of the vehicle.
The driver moved the truck away from the gas pumps to an outer portion of the parking lot where he parked between two other pickup trucks.
By this time the truck began to burn and the fire extended to the truck on the left heavily damaging that truck.
A truck on the right received minor damage, Morton said.
No injuries were reported during the incident.
Both trucks that caught fire are a total loss.
