The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for much of Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana.
Both Orange and Jefferson counties fall under the area of advisory, which remains in effect until 7 p.m. Tuesday evening.
A release from the NWS says the combination of mid 90s temperatures and area moisture can cause the heat index to reach 112 degrees in some areas.
Residents should make sure to drink plenty of water, take frequent breaks if working outside and ensure no pets or children are left in their vehicles.
The NWS also released updated tracking materials for Hurricane Beryl, which is currently in the Caribbean Sea.
The storm hit Category 5 status late last night and is expected to remain a major hurricane into Wednesday.
There is much uncertainty regarding the path Beryl will take once it emerges in the Gulf of Mexico. The storm’s probable path does not currently seem to be a threat to Southeast Texas, but residents should continue to monitor official forecasts.
Any potential impacts to our region would not occur until this weekend.
