A new challenger has entered the Nederland mayoral race.

Former city councilman Emmett Hollier is announcing his intention to campaign for the seat in 2025.

“The time has come for me to continue to serve my community and the citizens of Nederland at a different level,” Hollier said in a press release. “I hope to do so as the next Mayor of Nederland. The city of Nederland has been so good to me, and my family and it is now time to give back.”

Hollier served as a member of the Nederland City Council from 2019 through 2021. He is currently the Chair of the city’s Zoning Appeals Board.

The press release announcing Hollier’s candidacy said he will focus on keeping the lowest tax rate possible while maintaining the best public safety, public works, economic development and quality of life for citizens of Nederland.

Aside from his municipal government experience, Hollier is also the founder of Southeast Texas Circle of Hope. The organization, established in 2010, helps raise funds for families and individuals experiencing health crises.

“I believe we all have something to give back, and there are so many ways to do so: Rotary, Chamber, Optimist, charities, churches, schools, sports organizations,” Hollier said. “I believe my history of service and past leadership roles prepare me well to serve as the next Mayor of Nederland.”

Hollier has resided in Nederland since 1993 and raised his family there. He was named “Mr. Nederland” in 2017 for his contributions to the community.
