Over the past several years of writing this column there are 3 points I use in every column. As this will be my last time to visit with you, I wanted to reinforce the regular advice I share with you.
Always consult with your medical provider when changing your fitness routine, starting supplements, or nutrition intake. Especially if you have a chronic medical condition are on one or more daily medications. Not all medications are compatible with all supplements or foods, and can create serious consequences.
Moderation in all things. Don’t jump in with both feet and overdo anything. Be it exercise, foods, or supplements. Too much of anything can, again, create serious consequences. In fitness, start slow and build. Walking is great. In the gym, get professional guidance on exercises and using fitness equipment that serves your needs best. Massive doses of anything can be dangerous.
Use common sense. Don’t believe everything you read or watch on TV/social media. In a majority of cases, it is people trying to sell you a product or plan. Every week a “new” food, supplement, movement, or device hits the internet and is THE product that will change your life and make you well, fit, younger, and there is a company that will show you just where to buy it and how to use it for a price.
Something else that I frequently write about is listening to your body. You know your body better than anyone. Pay attention, when you are feeling off, have an unusual pain or discomfort, something doesn’t look right, or your movements are hindered, go see your healthcare provider. Do not put it off!
It has been an honor to share information with you, I hope it has helped make your or a loved one’s life a little better. As always, stay healthy my friends!
