NEDERLAND — When Kayzel Belgica had the idea to start Nederland Farmer’s Market she envisioned only a handful of vendors would be interested.
She was wrong.
When Nederland Farmer’s Market opens Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot of Ritter Lumber, 2004 FM 365 there will be more than 35 vendors.
“I didn’t realize it would be that popular,” Belgica said.
Belgica had a different site chosen when she first set out to have the farmer’s market but learned the site was not optimal for the event.
She offered a big thank you to Ritter Lumber for allowing her to use their parking lot for the market.
The market on Saturday will bring everything from fresh produce, fresh meat and eggs to candles, soaps, jams, plants, and more.
Stephanie Sharren, owner of Chosen Weeds and an organizer for Bridge City farmer’s Market will be one of the vendors Saturday. She will be selling homemade goat’s milk soap.
Sharren has been making soap for eight years. She said she really wasn’t looking to get into soap making. The idea came from a friend of hers who had a bath bomb business that had bought goat’s milk from her for her own soap. The friend told her “you really need to do this,” and she took over from there, she said.
The soaps are both scented and unscented, she said.
Sharren also owns a farm and offers soap making classes as well as being a life coach.
She’s excited to take part in Nederland Farmer’s Market, adding that the Bridge City Farmer’s Market will resume early next year.
