According to the National Hurricane Center’s 4 pm Sunday advisory, Category 1 Hurricane Kirk is 1050 miles west of the Azores, with maximum sustained wind of 85 mph. It’s moving 23 mph to the north-northeast.

“A turn toward the northeast is expected tonight.” meteorologists state. “An acceleration toward the east-northeast or east is expected by Monday night.” They also said “Although gradual weakening is expected over the next few days and Kirk is expected to become post-tropical on Monday, it will remain a large cyclone with a large wind field through the early part of this week.”

There were many developments today: Kirk had transformed into a Category 2 hurricane. It was later downgraded to a Category 1 hurricane with sustained winds of 85 miles per hour.

HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND:

SURF: Swells generated by Kirk are affecting the Leeward Islands, Bermuda, the Greater Antilles, the Bahamas, the east coast of the United States and portions of Atlantic Canada. These swells will spread to the Azores on Monday. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
