Islan “Bill” Flugence was born on September 13, 1931, to the union of the late Noe and Ada Moore Flugence in St. Martinville, Louisiana. At the age of 93 he was called home by his Heavenly Father, November 21, 2024.
He lived in Loreauville, Louisiana, where he met and married Rose Marie. To this union were two beautiful daughters. Shortly after, he moved to El Vista and was a lifelong resident.
He retired July 1, 1991, leaving his footprints at Star Enterprise. His coworkers called him “Flugie.” He worked for 39 years in maintenance. Employees in the plant knew who to call on for help. He also worked for the Port Arthur Police Department.
Islan was the first founder and president of King Cobra Motorcycle Club in Port Arthur, Texas. He also was the first founder of the Trail Club Golden Triangle Riders group of Port Arthur, Texas. He was a member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and an Honorary Life member.
Islan loved God and was a lifelong member of St. John Evangelist Catholic Church in El Vista.
Islan was preceded in death by his parents Noe & Ada Moore Flugence; wives Rose Marie Flugence, and Edna Levine Flugence; daughter Joyce Marie Flugence, and two sons Michael Scott and Kenneth Scott, also two brothers Joseph Abraham and Linus Jones.
Those left to cherish his memory are his devoted daughter Joyrita Guillory (Stanely); One son Andrew Scott Jr. granddaughter Anastasia Guillory (Courtney) of Drumphries, Virgina grandsons, Brandon Guillory (Nyaah) of Beaumont, Texas, Lance Guillory (Janisha) of Houston, Texas and Eugene Sonnier of Port Arthur, Texas; sister
Gloria Abraham, and brothers Edward Flugence, and Noah Abraham; 18 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, December 7, 2024 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 920 Booker Washington, Port Arthur, Texas with visitation from 8 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow in Live Oak Cemetery.
