Disturbance leads to shooting at Prince Hall Apartments, victim critically injured

A Port Arthur man is in critical condition and another was arrested following a shooting Monday at Prince Hall Apartments.

Port Arthur police were called at approximately 1:15 p.m. Monday to the apartment complex in the 1400 block of 13th Street. While there they found a man that had been shot at least twice, PAPD Chief Tim Duriso said. 

Duriso said two men were involved in a disturbance and one of the men pulled out a gun and started firing at the other man. The alleged shooter is a security guard who was not working at the time of the incident.

He has been identified as Najel Ray Hopkins, 28.

The victim, approximately 43 years of age, was transported by City Ambulance to The Medical Center of Southeast Texas and later transported to a Beaumont hospital in critical condition.
