Port Arthur Native Makes History as TSPRA President

Kristyn Hunt Cathey, a 1997 graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School, was installed as president of the Texas School Public Relations Association during their annual conference in San Antonio last month.

Cathey has served as the chief of communications and public relations for Alief Independent School District since August 2023. She spent two years as the director of communications in Goose Creek CISD and 11 years as the  media/communications specialist for Port Arthur ISD.

Boasting 1,200 members, Cathey is the first Black president in the organization’s 62-year history. A 12-year member of the organization, Kristyn’s presidency is a three-year term: president-elect

Lamar University and Lamar Institute of Technology since 2009. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications with a minor in English from Southern A&M University in 2001 and a Masters of Mass Communications in Journalism from the University of Georgia in 2003. The wife and mother is also a member of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA)

Houston Chapter, National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA), Texas Coalition of Women School Executives (TCWSE) and is a 22-year member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
