GROVES — After months of waiting, a preliminary plat for the construction of Indian Springs subdivision in Groves is now in the books.

The gated community of 144 high-end homes will be located on the land that once was home to Port Groves Golf Club, also known at the Pea Patch, in the 5700 block of Monroe Boulevard.

“This is the biggest subdivision (in Groves) in probably 40 years,” Groves City Manager D. Sosa said. “It’s going to be fantastic. It’s great for our community, our property values will go up and it’s great for the entire city.”

Albanese Cormier Holding purchased the land and Cormier Homes will handle the construction.

The gated community will look similar in style to Nederland’s Sterling Ridge subdivision with internal infrastructure, flowing streets and a community park, Tom Cormier of Albanese Cormier and Cormier Homes said in a Jan. 2 news article.

According to albanesecormier.com listings for Indian Springs amenities include Home Owner’s Association, gated community, curbed and guttered streets, street lighting, sidewalks and cross walks, a children’s park and lamp lighter style street signs and stop signs.

Steve Sanborn, Groves building official, said the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission will meet Dec. 1 and go over the plat. If the group recommends the plat it will then go before city council for approval,

The gated community will have access on Monroe Boulevard and Gulf Street.
