Joseph Warren Saulsberry

Joseph Warren Saulsberry, 87, departed this life on Monday, January 11, 2016 at Mid Jefferson Hospital in Nederland, TX.  Joseph was born on October 17, 1928 in Longleaf, LA to Willie Saulsberry and Patsy Young Lofton.  He resided in Port Arthur for over 60 years.  During that time he met and married his loving wife Lola “Peaches” Saulsberry.  Their union lasted over 40 years.
Joseph was a veteran and served in the United States Army.  He was a faithful member of Progressive Missionary Baptist Church where he served as Trustee Emeritus, and was a member of the male chorus.  Joseph was a founding member of one of the first African American civic and social clubs in Port Arthur, The Beau Brummells, later known as the Kingsmen Club.  He retired from Chevron Refinery with 35 years of employment.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lola Saulsberry; mother, Patsy Lofton, and father, Willie Saulsberry.
He is survived by a devoted niece, Karen Bayard-Walker (Clinton Walker, Sr.); a special niece, Judy Bobino (Melvin Bobino); a special cousin Mary Ruth Lindsey (Cordell Lindsey); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and very close friends.
Visitation will be 9 am – 11 am with funeral services beginning at 11 am on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at Progressive Missionary Baptist Church.  Burial will follow in Live Oak Cemetery under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
