A Port Arthur man has been sentenced to 60 years in prison for a fatal stabbing.

Dennis Jermaine Booker, 23, was found guilty earlier this week for the Aug. 16, 2014 murder of Xavier Cane, 20.

Booker had been fighting with his girlfriend, who is Cane’s cousin, following a party at Stonegate Manor Apartments. According to archive information, Cane was called in by other people to assist and break-up the altercation. While the two were fighting Booker stabbed Cane once through the heart with a kitchen knife.

Booker made a statement to police regarding the stabbing and a broken knife handle was found in his pocket.

“The jury’s guilty verdict and sentence hopefully can bring comfort and justice for the Cane family,” Prosecutor Luke Nichols said in a press release from the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. “Xavier Cane left behind a young son, several brothers, his parents and a large extended family.”
