James W. Woods, 93, of Hurst, TX passed away of natural causes in Midland, TX on Feb. 8, 2016.
Jim was born May 17, 1922 in Port Arthur, TX. His parents were William H. Woods and Flora Rebecca Cunningham. He was married in Port Arthur, TX to Autrey Ann Monsey for 52 years.
He served in the US Marine Corps during WWII from 1942-1946.
Jim retired from the Port Arthur Fire Department as assistant fire chief after 30 years of service. He then became the first fire chief at the new DFW Airport. He retired from the DFW Airport after 12 years of service. He, also, served for 30 years with the TEEX Fire Protection Training Division at Texas A&M University.
After retiring from the fire services, he and his wife became antiques dealers, where he was known for his techniques in caring for cast iron.
Jim is preceded in death by his wife, Autrey Ann Monsey; his parents, William H. Woods and Flora Rebecca Cunningham; his brother Earl Woods; sister Vivian Hartje; and one son, Michael Phillips.
Jim is survived by his three sons; James Autrey Woods and his wife Shirley; Robert Earl Woods and his wife Debbie; and William Monsey Woods; and one sister Audrey (Nonnie) Oliver. He has 6 grandsons, 2 granddaughters, 8 great-grand children, and 1 great-great granddaughter.
A memorial service will be held, Saturday, February 20th at First Presbyterian Church in Fort Worth at 5:00pm.
