Seahawks drop DH to Galveston

Lamar State College Port Arthur dropped its NJCAA Region 14 conference opener on Wednesday afternoon to Galveston College 12-1 and 13-6 at Martin Field.
The Seahawks’ overall record falls to 14-10 with the losses. They will return to league play Friday at Martin Field when they host Alvin Community College with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
In the first game, a 12-1 loss, the Hawks hit the ball but were unable to cross runs as they had doubles from Rebecca Hernandez and Nicole Thorn and a triple by Kayla Sheridan. Hernandez was 2 for 3 with the team’s only run batted in, which came in the third inning. She also pitched a complete game, allowing five earned runs on 16 hits with two strikeouts, three walks and a home run allowed. In the second game of the doubleheader, the Seahawks actually took the lead for a while after scoring three runs in the second inning to go up 3-1. Galveston exploded for six runs in the third and added six more in the sixth to overwhelm the Seahawks in the 13-6 decision.
Again, the Seahawks did well at the plate with doubles by Brooke Wilhelm, McKenzie Andrus and Anessa Sanchez, while Alexis Perez hit her ninth home run of the season. Perez finished 2 for 4 with two RBI, while Wilhelm was 1 for 3 with three RBI.
On the mound, Angelica Rogers threw a complete game, allowing eight earned runs on 15 hits with three strikeouts and four walks.
