Carter Taylor, age 85, left his earthly home in Kingwood, TX to be with his Lord in Heaven on Thursday, March 10, 2016. The son of Faye and Albert Grady “Shine” Taylor was born and raised in Irving, Texas. While attending Texas A&M, he received his degree in Chemical Engineering and was a member of the Texas A&M Core of Cadets. During his senior year in 1950, he met his soul mate Betty Jo Boswell on a blind date. Carter & Betty were happily married on December 20, 1952. Carter proudly served as Captain in the U.S. Air Force as a jet fighter pilot. Although he had a loving passion of flying, he chose to pursue a chemical engineering profession at Neches Butane (later Texaco). Betty and Carter settled in Groves, Texas to give their family roots and stability as they were growing up.
He was an Eagle Scout at Irving High School and in his adult years led an Air Explorers Boy Scout Troop in Groves. Carter was a superior craftsman and created beautiful heirlooms for his family. A strong leader in his church, he served on the building, finance, and personnel committees. Known by all as a “Mr. Fix-it,” he was always willing to lend an extra hand. He also had a heart for missions and gave his time and money to bring others to Christ. We will be forever grateful for his outstanding example of a godly man who loved his wife and family so well.
Carter was preceded in death by his loving soul mate, Betty, by only seven days. He is survived by three daughters, Pam Taylor-Glass and her husband David, Rhonda Rife and her husband Ronald, all from Spring, and Brenda Lundberg and her husband David from Humble; four grandchildren, Taylor Rife and his wife Alicia, Carter Rife, Landon Lundberg and his wife Lauren, and Reid Lundberg. Carter is also survived by his cousins Helen Ross from Georgia, Jim Hodges from Alabama, and Dr. Charles A. Wallace from Dallas, Texas.
The family would like to thank all of the caregivers for the loving and supportive service they provided for Carter by Visiting Angels, IPR Healthcare of Kingwood and the Isle of Kingwood staff. The family would also like to thank the multitude of friends and the Second Baptist family for their faithful prayers, loving support and encouragement. In memory of Carter G. Taylor, donations may be made to Great Commission Coalition International, P.O. Box 6787, Kingwood, TX 77325.
