ABILENE — Jacoby Middleton made a diving catch in right field to end an Abilene Christian comeback and preserve Lamar’s nonconference series sweep Sunday, as the Cardinals took a 7-5 road win.

The win also gives Lamar a 10th straight victory, its longest such streak since rallying off 10 straight in 2013.

It was 7-1 before ACU (10-17) climbed back in the ninth on the strength of four hits and two Lamar errors. Jimmy Johnson had to pick up his fifth save and second in as many days after one-third inning of work, while Jayson McKinley (2-0) gave up just one run on six hits in 6 2/3 innings for the win.

Stijn van der Meer went 4 for 5 to extend his hit streak to 17 games for Lamar.

The Cardinals (20-7) begin a two-game home set with Nicholls State tonight at 6. The series does not count toward Southland standings.
