Adelle Sevars went HOME to be with Jesus on Sunday, April 10, 2016. She was born in Mirando City, Texas on April 22, 1926 to Grace and R. G. Heathcock. She graduated from Pineland High School in 1943 and went on to work for Western Union and later The Beaumont Enterprise, and retired from The Port Arthur News, with over 30 years of service. While working at the newspaper in Beaumont she met her husband, Maurice Sevars, who proceeded her in death in 2011.
After retirement in 1989, she spent many hours working and serving at her church, Wesley United Methodist in Nederland. She loved all her church family and serving the Lord with them in whatever capacity she could. One of her favorite things was playing dominoes at the church on Thursdays. As her health declined, she lost most of her eyesight and, even though she could no longer see the spots on the dominoes, she still loved to go to the church on Thursdays and join in the conversations and fellowship with her Christian friends.
Adelle had one sister, Helen Joyce Ismael and a brother, R. G Heathcock, Jr., who proceeded her in death. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Dickard and her husband, Reid, of Buna; her son, Mark Ellison Sevars of Bangkok, Thailand; granddaughters, Shannon Dickard of Longview, and Kara Garner and her husband, Grant, of Buna; and two beautiful great-grandchildren that she cherished dearly, Peyton and Gavin Garner.
Our mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to so many will be missed greatly but we know, in our hearts, exactly where she now resides today and that we have the promise of seeing her again. Thank you so much to so many friends who visited her and kept her spirits going through the difficult times. Her friends at Wesley have always been so faithful and supportive. We cannot say enough about the wonderful ladies who gave our loved one such excellent and loving care during the last few years of her life. Becky LeBleu, Barbara Murray and Geneva Herman (Genevieve ) were sent straight from Heaven to us and we could not have made it without them. These three ladies will always have a special place in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, Nederland, 3515 Helena Ave., Nederland, TX. 77627.
A gathering of Mrs. Sevars’ family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m., with her funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 13, 2015, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. Her interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.
