Nederland shortstop Zack Friesz has verbally committed to play baseball at Lamar.
Prior to Tuesday’s home game against Ozen, Friesz was hitting .333 this season with eight doubles, nine RBI, 22 runs scored, eight walks and only five strikeouts.
Friesz’s fielding percentage was .836. He had 36 putouts in 55 chances.
Bridge City pitcher/outfielder Tod McDowell will also sign with Lamar. McDowell has a 6-1 record and a 1.64 ERA this year for the Cardinals. He has struck out 51 batters in 38 1/3 innings.
Lamar also picked up another local commit in West Orange-Stark shortstop Payton Robertson.
The three recent commits join Port Neches-Groves outfielder Cole Girouard in pledging to the Cardinals.
