Bond is set at $1 million for Paris Bennette Jr., who is charged with slashing another man’s throat at an apartment complex Tuesday morning.
Magistrate Judge Keith Giblin set the bond, according to Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy Marcus McLellan.
Bennette has a number of prior arrests including public intoxication, theft, aggravated robbery and resisting arrest, McLellan said.
Port Arthur Police Maj. Raymond Clark said they are continuing to investigate the case and do not know a motive for the murder.
“They (Guidry and Bennette) knew each other and were seen walking together in the complex,” Clark said.
Witnesses told police that the victim, Patrick Louis Guidry, 35, was sitting in a stairwell and the suspect was standing behind him when the slashing occurred.
Guidry was found dead with a four to five inch laceration to his neck around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Port Arthur Park Apartments, 1348 Jefferson Drive. An autopsy was performed Wednesday morning, according to police.
The deceased’s Facebook page has numerous comments offering condolences and listed that a candlelight vigil in his memory was to be held Wednesday night at the apartment complex.
