Martin lands on Subway’s 2015 Super Team

Kameron Martin had his splendid Port Arthur Memorial career capped Tuesday with another award.
Martin was given his award for being named to the 2015 Subway/Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Super Team.
The senior has had an up and down week after it was reported in Tuesday’s edition of The News he has opened his recruitment back up and has asked Baylor for his unconditional release of his National Letter of Intent.
Martin signed with Baylor in February and is now seeking a new school after the firing of former Bears coach Art Briles.
“It was a good deal today getting all that other stuff off my mind for a few,” Martin said. “I have never been stressed over it. The Lord has already written what is going to happen.”
Martin called the Subway award a blessing to end his high school career. Memorial holds graduation at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Montagne Center in Beaumont.
“It is a blessing from up high,” Martin said. “There are not too many people who get that award. I am the first person from Port Arthur to receive this award. It just proves all the hard work I have put in as a Titan has paid off. That is what you work hard for.”
Martin also has higher dreams for his future to prove his work did not go for nothing.
“I told my mother (Marion Harris) when I was in the ninth grade I would get an athletic scholarship so she did not have to pay for college,” Martin said. “I was able to do that. I am very proud of the career I had at Memorial. I do this for my family. One day I want the opportunity to be able to let both my parents retire. My mother is a very hardworking woman but she has worked enough.”
The question now remains if the college scholarship will be at Baylor or a school like Texas.
Martin did not report to Baylor Monday to enroll for fall classes.
There is a chance Baylor will not award Martin his full release from his NLI. If so, Martin could have to sit out his freshman year. If Baylor grants Martin a full release, he is able to sign with any Division I school and play this upcoming season.
