Jasmine Patin has lofty goals for her future but isn’t afraid of a challenge.
Patin is the Tekoa Academy of Accelerated Studies —Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math School valedictorian.
“This young lady is no stranger to hard work. Throughout her academic career at Tekoa she has maintained the highest grade point average in her class,” Jeffery Lewis, special assistant to the CEO at Tekoa, said. “She has been able to work and volunteer in various capacities along with community involvement.”
Patin will head to Prairie View A&M University where she will major in sociology and upon graduation be the first in her family to receive a college degree.
She was drawn to sociology because it maps out how people behave, she said. With her newfound knowledge she plans to tackle community efforts.
“I’ve been involved with community groups throughout my academic career,” Patin said. “There is political injustice and other things that happen within and outside our community as well.”
Patin is an avid writer of poetry and informative cultural compositions and while in high school was a member of the National Honor Society, student government and more. She has also served as senior class president.
Patin received scholarships from the Ladyz of Love Civic and Social Club, Compassionate Ladies Civic and Social Club and the valedictorian scholarship from Tekoa.
While in college her plans include volunteering in community events, joining school organizations and to experience as much of college life as possible.
Jasmine Patin is the daughter of Debby Patin and Landry Patin Sr.
