GROVES — High grass at the future site of Indian Springs subdivision is scheduled to be cut, according to information from the city of Groves.

The subdivision, in the 5700 block of Monroe Boulevard, was once the site for Port Groves Golf Club, locally known as the Pea Patch.

Groves City Manager D. Sosa said when the grass becomes high, an owner or representative is contacted. If the issue is not corrected, then the city’s fire marshal is tasked with sending a letter to the landowner or representative.

The city does have an option to place a lien on the property as they foot the bill fro the grass cutting.

In the current case the city went out for bids to cut the property and the lowest bidder has been notified by the fire department to cut the property.

“The low bidder was given the go-ahead to cut the property,” Sosa said.

The fire marshal handles all high grass and weeds calls and violations.

The property was being cut by a man who recently had health problems and was unable to continue, Sosa said.

Infrastructure work on the subdivision is now underway, he said.

Sosa said all of the required permitting and approvals have been issued by governmental entities and municipalities for the subdivision.

Albanese Cormier and Cormier Homes are expected to construct a gated subdivision with about 140 high-end homes and have a similar layout to Nederland’s Sterling Ridge subdivision.

Indian Springs will feature internal infrastructure, flowing streets and a community park. According to albanesecormier.com listings for Indian Springs amenities include Home Owner’s Association, gated community, curbed and guttered streets, street lighting, sidewalks and cross walks, a children’s park and lamp lighter style street signs and stop signs.
