Sports Mailbag: Memorial served Nederland revenge

Dear Sports Editor,

They say revenge is a dish best served cold. Well, it was cold in Memorial Stadium for the Bulldogs Friday night (Sept. 30).

I waited about 20 years for this game. About 20 years ago, SFA played Nederland in Bulldog Stadium. That night, SFA was overmatched. Nederland was winning by more than twenty points with less than 3 minutes left in the game.

Nederland had the ball and instead of running the ball to run out the clock, Coach Neumann was still throwing passes. I wrote a letter to the Port Arthur News to let Neumann know that one day he would meet his Waterloo.

The Titans handed it to him Friday night. Not only did the Titans beat them on the scoreboard, 42-12, but they physically beat them on the field. They were beaten so bad that there was a rumor the next day that someone called PETA to report the Titans for cruelty to animals.

Coach Neumann, next time you’re in that position, maybe you will show a little sportsmanship and run the clock out. I do know one thing, though, after Friday night’s (Sept. 30) game: You and your team will “Remember the Titans.”
