Woman identified who was found murdered, burning

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim found burning on Old Sour Lake Road as Cordy Simmons, 50, of Beaumont.

She was identified though fingerprints and confirmed by family, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office and Simmons’ family are seeking help I finding who committed this crime. Persons with information are asked to call the sheriff’s office at 835-8411. You may also call Crime Stoppers at 833-TIPS.

The sheriff’s office received the 911 call from a motorist around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday saying there was a person or a mannequin on fire in the roadway in the 11600 block of Old Sour Lake Road.

Deputies put out the fire and determined it was a human body.

Investigators, members of the identification unit and Jefferson County Regional Crime Lab were involved in the scene. The road was closed to traffic at Keith and Phelan to Old Sour Lake Road at Meeker while conducting the investigation.
