LU begins Fall World Series today

The Lamar baseball team will hold its first Fall World Series in five years starting at 3:45 p.m. today.
Senior captains Cutter McDowell, Galen Andrews, Bryndan Arredondo and Brett Brown drafted the teams, who will also square off at 3:45 p.m. Monday and 4:45 p.m. Tuesday. Should games 4 and 5 be necessary, they will play at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday and 4:45 p.m. Thursday.
This is also the first Fall World Series under coach Will Davis, who was hired in January and officially took over for Jim Gilligan in June.
“We’ve scrimmaged every day throughout fall practice, and it’s nothing out of the ordinary,” said Davis, the former LSU assistant coach. “The World Series provides an even more competitive environment because it puts the guys in game-like situations. When I was at LSU, the World Series would give us the best practices we had all fall.”
Lamar begins the 2017 season with its Cardinal Classic, including Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Illinois, Feb. 17-19.
