Port Arthur Police identified the man who was fatally shot outside a hotel Thursday night as Rasheed Troy Edwards, 29, of Port Arthur.

Police received the call of possible shots fired about 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29 at Baymont Inn & Suites, 3801 Texas 73. While there they found the victim deceased from a gunshot wound.

Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Marc DeRouen was called to the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

Detectives along with identification technicians with the police department responded and handled the investigation.

The suspect is currently at large.

Friends and family members of the victim were on scene Thursday night often hugging and consoling each other and Edwards’ Facebook page was flooded with condolences and comments of shock and grief.

Police are not commenting on a possible motive for the shooting or of a description of the suspect.

Police are currently searching for a white Dodge Challenger and anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the Port Arthur Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
