The Rev. Albert Moses Jr., pastor of Christian Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Port Arthur, said the church scheduled the Strong Man Conference 2017 in early January because they want to get started off on the right foot throughout the year.

“We want men to take charge and be responsible,��� he said. “We want them to be inspired to have better homes, be better to their wife, their children, their church home. That’s part of manhood. We just want to make it better.”

The theme of the conference is Led to Lead and based on Deuteronomy 28:13 — ¹³ And the Lord shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the Lord thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:

The conference starts with empowerment sessions at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18- Friday, Jan. 20, at the church, 1919 Jefferson Dr. in Port Arthur. The services start at 7 p.m.

Moses said the conference is free this year, so men have no excuse not to attend.

Kenneth Daigle, an employee with the Port Arthur ISD will give the empowerment session on Wednesday. He will speak on Your Best Health Now.

On Thursday, Christian Smith will speak on What’s A Brother To Do? It’s about the social things men can do that are God honoring and God-fearing.

Kennedy Andrews, pastor of Harvest for Lost Souls will speak at the empowerment session on Friday about Body Building (The Church). He will speak of how they have moved from a storefront church to a split two-level church on Highland Avenue in Beaumont.

The preacher for the Wednesday night service will be Pastor Shan E. David of Houston. Pastor Willie D. Francois III from New Jersey will preach on Thursday night and Pastor Bertrand Bailey Jr. from Mount Pleasant will preach on Friday.

Some men will also be honored nightly at the conference.

Thurman Bartie with Kappa League will be honored on Wednesday. Kappa League helps boys to become men.

The Rev. Dr. Lloyd Scott will be honored on Thursday. Moses said he’s an elder preacher in the city from Eastern Star Baptist Church in Port Arthur.

Choirs will perform too as follows:

• Wednesday, Paradise Missionary Baptist Church in Port Arthur male choir will sing.
• Eastern Star MBC will sing on Thursday.
• For Friday, Young Men In Christ consisting of Constable Christopher Bates, PAISD Trustee Brandon Bartie and Pastor Kalan Gardner Sr. of First Sixth Street Baptist Church.

For Friday, Derrick Freeman, mayor of Port Arthur, will be honored as one of the youngest mayors in Texas.

For music, Psalmist Marvin Griffin from Antioch Baptist Church in Beaumont will sing on Wednesday. David Richard of 409 The Heat Internet Radio will sing on Thursday and the Rev. LaRoyal Dorsey with New Hope Baptist Church in Port Arthur will sing.

There will be snacks for sale after the revival so nobody will have to go home hungry.

The Strong Man Conference started seven years ago. Actually, the church’s Ladies Diamond Conference started first. Moses said the ladies urged the men they needed to get together.

Preparations for the conference started months ago. Moses added they also have to be flexible in their planning if something changed at a moment’s notice.

“We have a slate of brethren to speak that will truly inspire us to be better husbands, fathers, uncles, nephews and sons,” he said.
