Lamar State College Port Arthur will face Blinn College in the first round of the NJCAA Region XIV men’s basketball tournament, which starts today at the Jacksonville ISD John Alexander Gym. During the regular season, the Seahawks defeated the Buccaneers twice by scores of 89-75 and 76-63. The game tips off at 1 p.m.

The tournament takes place through Saturday with the men’s championship game taking place at 8 p.m. The tournament features the top 12 teams in Region XIV with LSCPA (17-12 overall) and Blinn (17-13) representing the No. 8 and 9 seeds, respectively.

Seahawks freshman John Comeaux has dominated against the Buccaneers this season, scoring 34 points in the first win in Brenham and 20 points in the showdown at the Parker Center. Comeaux enters the tournament scoring 19.6 points per game, having started 27 of the team’s 29 contests this season. He also leads the team with 4.0 assists per game.

Sophomore post Petar Radojicic adds to the Seahawks’ scoring depth, averaging 15.2 points a game after starting every game this season. The Serbian, who spent a medical redshirt last season, has returned for his second year of play with a passion for rebounding. He leads the conference with 10.0 boards a game.

Against Blinn, Radojicic scored 17 points in Brenham, then returned home to score 14 points at the Parker Center. In the game on the road, the sophomore had a season-best 17 rebounds with 13 boards on the defensive end of the floor.

The Buccaneers are led by sophomore forward James Harrison, who is averaging 14.2 points a game with 6.7 rebounds. Just behind him is teammate LaKendric Hyson with 12.6 points and 5.9 rebounds a game.

The teams ranked in the top four after the regular season earned a first-round bye and will play on Thursday against the winners of today’s games.
