Golden Pass LNG got some good news this week as Port Arthur Chamber of Commerce President Bill McCoy announced that the U.S. Department of Energy signed off on the final permit necessary to sell liquid natural gas (LNG).
McCoy sent an email to Energy Secretary Rick Perry on Tuesday thanking him for his signature.
“Your signature will make possible the start of a $12 billion construction project in Port Arthur, Texas that will generate 9,000 construction jobs … and 45,000 direct and indirect jobs nationwide.”
McCoy went on to write that he estimates billions in revenue for local, state and national economies would be generated.
In an interview on Tuesday, McCoy said the Obama Administration had stonewalled the project and he was glad the Trump Administration gave it the go-ahead.
“Everything was done, it just wasn’t being signed,” he said.
McCoy went on to praise Golden Pass as a good corporate neighbor, noting their sustained efforts to support wetlands development and hiring local when possible.
He added that while the construction jobs might not be permanent, he estimated that between 150 and 200 new, permanent jobs could come of this.
