Marcella Marie Askew

Marcella Marie Askew, 87, of Nederland, died Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 19, 1929, in Port Arthur, to Cecile Olivier Simoneaux and Ravain Simoneaux.

Marcella was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church Altar Society, Women’s Guild, The Red Hat Society, and Daisy’s Painting Club. She enjoyed cooking, traveling, and playing cards with her grandkids. Marcella will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and granny.

Survivors include her husband of sixty-six years, Vernon Askew of Nederland; sons, Richard Askew and his wife, Michelle, of Nederland, Ed Askew of Jasper, and Steven Askew and his wife, Kashia, of Lake Charles, Louisiana; daughters, Cheryl Cary of Nederland and Donna Cockrell and her husband, Tracy, of LaPorte; eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and brother, Sterling Simoneaux and his wife, Hazel, of Bridge City.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Richard and Charles Simoneaux; and sister, Jeanette Tamplin.

A gathering of Mrs. Askew’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, May 4, 2017, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 5, 2017, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 211 Hardy Avenue, Nederland, with her interment following at Memory Gardens of Jefferson County, Nederland.
