Port Arthur police responded to a stabbing Tuesday evening that sent one woman to the emergency room.

According to a press release, at approximately 8:30 p.m. officers responded to the Joe Louis Apartments at 1300 Joe Louis Ave., in reference to a female being stabbed in the back. Officers discovered a 31-year-old woman who had been stabbed in the upper back by another female.

The suspect is African American and she was not on scene when officers arrived.

The victim was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital where she underwent emergency surgery due to the seriousness of her injuries. As of Wednesday morning, this case remains under investigation.
