A man who police believe held a woman against her will for at least four hours while SWAT negotiated Thursday night has been arrested for unlawful restraint.

The arrest came during the course of a burglary investigation, according to a press release from the Port Arthur Police Department.

Bond has been set at $1,000 for Christopher James Simpson, according to an employee at the Jefferson County Correctional Facility.

Police had reportedly witnessed the suspect carrying a television into a home in the 2400 block of 11 Street and secured the perimeter of the property.

Family of the suspect told police that Simpson was holding his girlfriend against her will inside the home.

Port Arthur SWAT was called to the scene along with the Port Arthur Police Department Hostage Negotiation Team. Communications with the suspect was established and after about four hours of negotiation, the hostage was released from the home without physical injury.

A short time later the suspect voluntarily surrendered, and was taken into custody and transported to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility and booked for unlawful restraint.
