Nealon Miller Segrest

Nealon Miller Segrest, Sr., 97, of Port Arthur passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at Gulf Health Care Center in Port Arthur.
He was born on October 14, 1919 to his parents, Thomas Jackson Segrest and Mattie Libetha Lockhart Segrest in Shady Grove, Texas. Nealon has been a resident of the area since 1939. He graduated from West Point Merchant Marine Academy in New London, Conneticut. Nealon served during World War II as a merchant marine and retired from Gulf Oil as a Chief Engineer. During his travels at sea, he obtained his engineers liscense and visited many ports all over the world.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his ten siblings, Lealah, Arnold, Jack, Wesley, Florence, Bethel, Hazel, Arvey Ralph, Leonard and Bobby Gene, his son, Scott Thomas Segrest, his wife, Wilma Mary Segrest, his son-in-law, Christopher Blasé Laughlin.
Nealon is survived by his daughters, Mary Ann Laughlin of Leesville, Louisiana, Susan Olivia Segrest Giacomazza and husband, Carl of Tomicula, California, his sons, John Paul Segrest, Sr. and wife, Paula Kay of Vidor, Texas, Nealon Miller Segrest, Jr. and wife, Lorett of Spring, Texas, Eric Martin Segrest and wife, Trisha of Columbus, Texas, 17 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Sunday, July 23, 2017 from 5:00 PM till 8:00 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. Service to honor Nealon’s life will be celebrated at 2:00 PM Monday, July 24, 2017 at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home. Burial with Military Funeral Honors will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
