FRISCO – For the third consecutive week, the Lamar football team will appear on ESPN3.
Saturday’s game at Northwestern State will be televised on Cox Sports TV (CST) and has also been added to the ESPN3 schedule, the Southland Conference office announced.
The late addition to the ESPN3 schedule will have the Cardinals playing four of the first five games on the network’s online platform this season. All five LU home games will be on ESPN3 as the university enters its third season – second year for football – in partnership with ESPN.
In addition to football, LU also televises all of its home men’s and women’s basketball games on ESPN3 as well.
The Cardinals travel to Natchitoches, Louisiana, Saturday for the Southland Conference opener against the Demons. The Cardinals head to Natchitoches looking for consecutive wins on the season and in the series, while Northwestern State (0-2) is looking for its first win of the season.
The Red and White will be traveling to a city where they haven’t enjoyed much success historically.
The Cards are just 4-7 (.364) all-time in Natchitoches and have dropped the last five meetings on the road. If the Cardinals can pick up the win Saturday, it would be the first time since 1976 that LU has won back-to-back games in the series (although there was a 16-year gap between games, 1960 and 1976).
Saturday’s game is slated to kick off at 6 p.m. from Turpin Stadium and will serve as the conference opener for both schools. In addition to ESPN3, the game can also be heard live on Newstalk 560 KLVI.
