Lamar errors costly at Houston Baptist in volleyball

HOUSTON – Ivette Dim had a hand in eight blocks, but the Lamar University Cardinals couldn’t overcome several costly errors as they were swept in straight sets by host Houston Baptist in a Southland Conference women’s volleyball match Thursday night.

The Cardinals (2-11 overall, 0-3 Southland) committed 25 attack errors with 27 kills on 111 attempts for an attack percentage of .018 as they fell to the Huskies by scores of 25-22, 25-14, 25-16. LU was also charged with four service errors and four reception errors along with one blocking error on the evening.
Tomar Thomas had eight kills for LU, while Amy Hollowell and Murielle Hlavac had 10 digs apiece for the Cardinals. Haley Morton was credited with 24 assists and eight digs.

The Cardinals and Huskies (11-5, 3-1) played a spirited first set, with LU rallying from a 19-12 deficit to tie the set at 20 before the Huskies pulled away. The Cardinals held an early 5-4 lead in the second set before the Huskies went on an 11-3 run to take control. The third set saw LU score the first point for its only lead of the set.

Bailey Banks had 16 kills and nine digs for HBU, while Jessica Wooten finished with nine kills and 13 digs. The Huskies finished the night with 41 kills and 17 errors on 109 attack attempts for a .220 attack percentage.
