We thank those who continue to give

As you will not from our front page story today, there are still generous groups out there still donating graciously to victims of Hurricane Harvey.
In this instance, Texas Children’s Hospital and its HMO, Texas Children’s Health Plan arrived on Friday to award students backpacks and lunch bags to staff.
They are not alone in their generosity. In fact, every day we see the help offered by the Red Cross, the Salvation Army, churches and everyday, private citizens.
We are grateful for all of it.
Although media attention has long passed us by—lured first by Hurricane Irma, then to Hurricane Maria and now to the tragedy in Las Vegas—we are heartened that local and regional donors continue to step forward with kindness and generosity.
We know there are still many months to go before our community is in any way back to normal.
So, we would like to urge those companies and nonprofits and everyday people to get involved, help out and contribute if at all possible.
Even if you are one person and have nothing but time to give—volunteer. Sign up. Give back. We will all be stronger for it.
