At approximately 7:35 p.m. on Tuesday a man was shot and killed at Avery Trace Apartments.
According to a report from the city of Port Arthur, officers from the Port Arthur Police Department responded to 4120 Hwy 365 in reference to shots fired and a man down. Initial investigation indicates that a suspect outside building number 4120 and shot confronted the victim, a 20-year-old black male.
A suspect was arrested Wednesday morning on unrelated charges after a chase and standoff of Fourth Street, though police have not released a name.
According to Det. Mike Hebert, the suspect was located thanks to a tip, and the suspect was confronted at a residence on Fourth Street.
“That individual exited the back door of the house with a pistol and there was brief standoff,” Hebert said. “He fled on foot.”
Hebert said the man ran four blocks to the 4000 block of Lakeshore and, at the sea wall, tossed the pistol over the wall and into the water.
As of 11 a.m. Wednesday, police were waiting for the fire department’s dive team to arrive and locate the pistol.
Hebert said police have not yet determined a motive for the murder, though more arrest could be forthcoming as police are searching for more persons of interest.
The victim was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont on Tuesday evening where he later died as a result of his injuries.
The case remains under investigation.
