Mabel Charles Bishop

On the evening of Sunday, December 10, 2017, a woman of God was called to her heavenly home – a place where Mabel Charles Bishop always knew she would go when her earthly life was over. Mabel Charles Bishop was born in St. Martinville, Louisiana on October 7, 1917 to John and Daisy Tyler Charles.  Mabel passes her torch to her beloved children; Cleveland (CJ) Johnson, Jr. of Moreno Valley, California and Gloria J. Gunner of Port Arthur, Texas; 7 grandchildren: Yvette (Nathan) Thomas, Marcus (Anita) Johnson, Timothy (Tongela) Gunner, Miranda (William) Dunlap, Gregory Gunner, Derron (Susan) Johnson and Cindy Mack; 8 great-grandchildren; Trae, Vaughn, Chase, Tayla, Miles, Nala, Lia and Karrington. Sisters in- law, Maude Charles and Florence Johnson. Step-son and daughter; Deseria (Barbara) Bishop and Almedia Scott; 7 step-grandchildren along with a host of relatives and friends. Mabel’s 100-year legacy will be celebrated on Monday, December 18, 2017. Visitation from 9:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m. with services following at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 821 Freeman Avenue, Port Arthur, Texas, Rev. David Daviss officiating. Entombment at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Hannah Funeral Home.
