NEDERLAND — Three Nederland players all scored in double figures Friday, combining for almost 75 percent of the team’s scoring in a 51-27 rout of Lumberton in boys basketball.

More importantly, Nederland (22-10, 5-4 in 22-5A) remains on track to clinch the fourth and final playoff spot out of the district with five games remaining. Vidor (15-13, 4-5) remained a game behind the Bulldogs with a 61-48 win over Livingston.

Hayden Hefner had 15 points, Jonathan Rayford 13 and Shafin Momin 10 for the Bulldogs, who visit Ozen on Tuesday.

 

Ozen 58, PNG 29

BEAUMONT — Jakia Oliver nearly scored as many points as Port Neches-Groves.

Oliver’s 25 points helped Ozen (14-10, 7-2 in 22-5A) double up the Indians on Friday, dropping them three games behind fourth place.

The Panthers stayed in control for much of the game, expanding a 13-8 lead to 28-13 at halftime.

Trent Lee scored eight points for the Indians (12-17, 2-7), who host Vidor on Tuesday. PNG has to win its remaining five games to finish with even overall and district records.

 

Kirbyville 71, Bob Hope 40

KIRBYVILLE — Chris May scored 20 points and Kenneth Diaz had 14, but the Eagles (8-14, 0-9 in 23-3A) failed to pick up their first district victory.

Bob Hope will try again at home against Buna on Tuesday.

 

GIRLS HOOPS
Central 42, Memorial 38

BEAUMONT — Port Arthur Memorial needed this one, and Beaumont Central wouldn’t let the Titans have it.

Tamya Renfro’s 18 points and Cameron Dill’s 10 points were crucial in the Jaguars’ victory to remain in third place in the district. Central (7-4 in 22-5A) was tied for Livingston going into Friday, while Memorial (7-20, 5-6) was a game behind both teams.

Julia Sion and Dakayla Miller each led Memorial with nine points. Sion made 5 of 7 free throws.

Both teams took plenty of free throws, but 12-of-22 shooting at the line came back to haunt the Titans. Central was 19 for 34.

Memorial hosts Lumberton on Tuesday.

 

Ozen 64, PNG 43

PORT NECHES — Maylin Stampley played what coach Kara Skinner called her best game to date.

Stampley scored 18 points, made six steals and pulled down three rebounds, but district-leading Ozen (10-1 in 22-5A) was a little too much for PNG (15-21, 2-9) to handle on Friday.

Chelsea Carrillo crashed eight boards and blocked a shot to go with four points. Harlee Barnwell (nine points) and Holly Jones each had six rebounds.

PNG will visit Vidor on Tuesday.

Also Friday: Lumberton beat Nederland 72-42.

 

BOYS SOCCER

PNG 8, Ozen 0

BEAUMONT — Preston Riggs turned a hat trick, Landon Sandell struck up two goals, and PNG (7-3-1, 1-0 in 22-5A) opened district play with a rout of Ozen (0-1 in 22-5A).

Jose Ceja, Kellon Hoyte and Jason Lovejoy each added a goal for the Indians, who’ll visit Vidor on Tuesday.

 

Livingston 2, Memorial 1

LIVINGSTON — Andres Garcia got Memorial (1-3-1, 0-1 in 22-5A) on the board, but Livingston had the deciding score at home.

Lumberton will visit Memorial on Tuesday.

Also Friday: Lumberton 1, Nederland 0.

 

GIRLS SOCCER

Memorial 3, Livingston 1

In Port Arthur, youth served the Titans (2-2-3, 1-0 in 22-5A) well.

Juniors Blanco Orozco and Mariana Valdez scored along with Guadalupe Contreras for Memorial, who will play at Lumberton on Tuesday.

 

Nederland 2, Lumberton 0

LUMBERTON — Meg Sheppard connected on both of the Bulldogs’ goals, and Hailey Kimler was credited with the shutout win in the net.

Nederland will visit Beaumont Central on Tuesday.

 

PNG 9, Ozen 0

BEAUMONT — Eight different PNG players scored, and the Indians (9-1-3, 1-0 in 22-5A) left nothing to chance against the Panthers.

Breeana Riggs scored two goals. Halley Smith, Izzy Volk, Jillian Flores, Grace Reed, Mattie McGraw, Abby Reeves and Kaylee Landry kept the rout going.

Flores assisted on two goals. Mackenzie Tindel, Ariel Muller, Volk, Riggs and Landry each had one assist.

PNG will host Vidor on Tuesday.
