Beaumont police were seeking a lone suspect in the Monday morning shooting death of a local woman.

Police were called to the1100 block of Church Street around 11:30 Monday. There, they found paramedics attending to a woman who had been shot several times and had sustained wounds to her upper chest.

The victim, whose name was not released, was transported to St. Elizabeth hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Beaumont police said the suspect was described as a black male with a short afro in his 30s or 40s. He was seen running south from the house after the shooting, wearing a blue plaid shirt.
