LAMAR GOLFERS EARN TIEBREAKER FOR WIN AT HUSKY INVITE

CYPRESS – A rarely used tiebreaker resulted in the Lamar women’s golf team bringing home the top trophy from the HBU Husky Invitational that wrapped up Tuesday.
The Cardinals finished tied with Houston Baptist, but won the tiebreaker based on the score of the fifth golfer. LU and HBU finished the tourney deadlocked at 48-over-par 912 for three rounds. At that point, tourney officials went to the scorecards, where LU’s Brooke Duzan had an 80, while HBU’s Shamiso Hatchard posted an 82.
The two teams entered Tuesday’s final round tied for the lead, and both shot a 307 for the final round.
Senior Felicia Sauceda and sophomore Elodie Chapelet had the best rounds of the day for the Cardinals, as each fired a 2-over-par 74 on the 6,247-yard, par-72 layout of the Blackhorse Golf Club. Chapelet, was LU’s top finisher for the event, as she placed fifth in the 66-player field at 9-over 225 for 54 holes.
The Cardinals had three golfers finish in the top 10. Olivia Le Roux placed eighth at 228 after a 79, while Eva Martinez tied for ninth at 231. Sauceda finished tied for 21st at 236, while Duzan was 25th at 237.
