Staff reports
Soccer season has just been extended for two Port Arthur boys teams.
For both Memorial and Bob Hope, one guy did all the scoring Thursday.
Sergio Sanchez netted both of Memorial’s goals in the second half, and the District 22-5A runner-up Titans knocked off host Humble 2-1 in a UIL 5A bi-district match. The win puts Memorial, which was 9-4-1 in the district, in an area round match against Galena Park at 5 or 6 p.m. Tuesday in Baytown at Stallworth Stadium.
Bob Hope advanced to the 4A area round for the second year in a row by defeating Jasper 2-1 at the Thomas Center in Beaumont. Juan Hernandez scored a goal in each half for the Eagles, who have a big task ahead of them in Mexia, and 11-0 winner over Anahuac.
No date or setting was yet announced for Bob Hope.
The 5A area round will not include Port Neches-Groves, which took a 5-1 defeat to Caney Creek in Mont Belvieu. No details were available, but the Indians finished the season 16-8-1.
Many soccer matches involving local teams were moved from one location to another or had changes in time due to inclement weather.
