BASEBALL: Bulldogs win 22-5A outright

The deal is done.

Nederland clinched the District 22-5A baseball championship outright Friday night with a 10-1 win at Port Arthur Memorial in the regular-season finale for both teams.

Case Babino led the charge going 3 for 3 with a double. Alex Ortiz was 2 for 2 with two runs scored, Trenton Simon hit a triple, and Landon Hiltz and Brock Holton each doubled.

Alan Underwood earned the pitching victory, while Noah Gregory finished out the game.

Roberto Collazo, Miguel Martinez and Van Ellas each had a hit for Memorial (8-14, 4-10 in 22-5A), which tied Livingston for fifth. David Torres threw three innings in a start and Josue Rodriguez struck out five in relief while giving up two hits in four innings.

Nederland (21-6-1, 13-1) will take on Dayton in the 5A bi-district round at Barbers Hill High School in Mont Belvieu. Game 1 of the best-of-three series is at 7 p.m. Wednesday, with Game 2 slated for 5 p.m. Friday.

If Game 3 is necessary, it will begin 30 minutes after Game 2.

 

PNG 12, Livingston 2

In Livingston, the Indians (18-9-3, 12-2 in 22-5A) wrapped up the second seed and ended the night early by scoring seven runs in the fifth to build an 11-run lead.

Livingston added a run in the fifth, but it was not enough to prevent the run rule from going into effect.

Austin Bost went 2 for 3 with two RBI and two runs scored, and Hunter Curtis drove in two runs as well on one hit for PNG.

Carson Roccaforte and Brandon Petix each had a hit as well. Khristian Curtis (RBI) and Petix each drove in a run.

Vidor finished third in 22-5A, with Lumberton coming in fourth.

PNG will take on Porter in the 5A -district round. Game 1 is set for 6 p.m. Thursday at Porter, with Game 2 at 7 p.m. Friday in Port Neches and Game 3, if necessary, at 6 p.m. at The Reservation.
