Annie Laura Lockwood, 84, of Port Arthur, TX passed away Saturday, May 5, 2018 at The Medical Center of Southeast Texas. A native of Scott, Louisiana, she was a longtime resident of Port Arthur. Affectionately known by family and friends as “Peaso” and “Pease”, she was a 1953 graduate of Lincoln High School and received her Bachelors degree from Tuskegee University. Annie was a member of St. James Catholic Church and retired as a physical education teacher at Port Arthur ISD.
Funeral service will be 12 noon Friday, May 11, 2018 at St. James Catholic Church with visitation from 10 a.m. until service time. The rosary will be recited at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Johnson Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
Annie is preceded in death by her parents, Leo Paul and Helen Francis; her husband, Rufus Lockwood; her son, Winston Lockwood and sister, Velma Howard.
She is survived by her daughter, Harriet Lockwood-Burton (Norwood) of Brunswick, GA; a devoted nephew, Leroy Howard, Jr., of Port Arthur, TX; great-nephew, Leroy Howard III; great-nieces, Lerenda Howard and Lasonja Davis; a longtime friends, Emma Ruth Bonton and Mattie Morrow of Port Arthur, TX and Barbara Jacquet of Houston, TX; one godson, Rev. Stephen D. Mayfield, Sr.; and a host of great-nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
